NCAA Leotard Update: Week 1

Florida's Marissa King on Floor.
Florida: I love the color of these, but the belt of crystals is just not super flattering to most of the girls. I want to see more orange from the Gators this year (because I love orange, ok, don't judge me). Although if they stick with this brighter shade of blue in some better designs, that would be okay.

LSU, Georgia, UCLA, and more after the break!

LSU's Maliah Mathis

LSU: I actually don't hate this. I thought I would, because it has a lot going on, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. Purple and yellow are tough colors to work with, and I think using them as accents is the way to go. It would be even better if the sleeves were black, however.

Central Michigan: Maroon and gold are some of the most flattering colors to work with, and I think Central Michigan did a good job selecting these leos. The only difference I would make is to remove the gold ribbons from the sleeves. I just don't like the look of solid fabric accents on mesh.

Georgia's Cat Hires on balance beam
Georgia: Oh GymDogs. You always have to put your team name, or school name, or a letter G somewhere, don't you? I like it when it's well designed and subtle, but the large GYMDOGS plastered on the girls' chests? Not doing it for me. Overall, this one is just poorly designed and not flattering - from the nipple-level seam to the ill-placed firework.

A Bowling Green gymnast on Floor
Bowling Green: This has so much going for it. It's white and orange - which are two of my favorite colors for leotards. In incorporates the school's name without literally spelling it out in crystals, but it just doesn't work. The seams fall in all the wrong places, and the giant B ends up looking awkward. Good ideas, poor execution.

Auburn's Bri Guy
Auburn: Both orange teams letting me down this week. The concept is okay, but those orange parts sort of remind me of ugly tribal tattoos. Also, I've never been a huge fan of the straight across seam. Solid white or black with orange accents would be an improvement.

UCLA's ballet inspired leotards

UCLA: I've always loved the balletic aspect of UCLA's leotards, and this week is no expception. The crystals sparkles and cam across beautifully on the feed, and the open back was flattering. I wasn't sure about the thick stripes down the arms, but during the performances it worked.

This week's Winner: UCLA
