UCLA's season opener against Southern Utah was getting everyone excited (especially because they provide free live streams - take the hint other schools!) and they mostly didn't disappoint.
UCLA easily took the meet, but had a few mishaps - including a characteristic fall from Mattie Larson on beam. Zam led the all-around, hitting another early season high score - 9.975 on floor. We're just handing these high scores out this week, aren't we?
We also got to appreciate Miss Val's unique, albeit beautiful floor choreography. And a few (both pleasant and scary) surprises from this team.
In addition, Southern Utah broke the monotony of the FTY on vault.
The other exciting meet was a quad between Arizona, Auburn, and Kentucky hosted at Cal. the home team won, but it was a good meet (even though the live scores were not working). Auburn had some trouble, posting the seconds lowest score on beam nationally.
And taking the fourth place spot in the meet.
New Hampshire beat Rutgers, with Austyn Fobes posting one of the top all-around scores in the country this week. UNH hasn't put up videos, so here's a gif of Austyn from 2004.
And UW La Crosse fell to Iowa.
